A Raisin in the Sun depicts the story of an African American family named Youngers. The family is living on the south side of Chicago in the 1950s. Lorraine Hansberry’s famous play ‘A Raisin in the Sun’ tells the story of the Younger family and their struggles trying to make their dreams come true as a poor black family in 1950s Chicago.

A Raisin In The Sun is the story of youngers who receive an insurance check for $10,000. This money comes from the deceased Mr. Younger’s life insurance policy.

The story in A Raisin In The Sun moves ahead when every family member has their dream to utilize that money. All have a different plan that they want to accomplish with insurance money. The head of the family Mama wants to buy a house to fulfill a dream she shared with her husband. Mama’s son, Walter Lee, wants to invest the money in a liquor store for running good business with his friends. Walter’s wife also agrees with the idea to buy a new house for good living. Lastly, Beneatha, Walter’s sister and Mama’s daughter, wants to use the money for her medical school tuition.

With the progression of the play named A Raisin In The Sun, we get to see the clashes among younger’s families over competing dreams. Ruth thinks to abort her child with the fear that she will give more pressure on his family. Mama puts a down payment on a house for the whole family. She believes that a bigger, brighter dwelling will help them all. This house is in Clybourne Park, an entirely white neighborhood.

A Raisin In The Sun brought a twist when the Youngers’ future neighbors find out that the Youngers are moving in, they send Mr. Lindner, from the Clybourne Park Improvement Association, to offer the Youngers money in return for staying away. But youngers very gracefully refuse the deal and move out from the department.

 Besides lots of trouble going through in their lives, the Youngers finally move into the new house. A Raisin In The Sun clearly shows that what matters for youngers is staying together. Undoubtedly their future seems uncertain and slightly dangerous, but they look optimistic and determined to live a better life. They believe in the fact that they can succeed and get high ranks if they stick together and can resolve any issue easily.
